Beijing

Beijing is truly remarkable. We've just seen a small sliver of it near our hotel and have been amazed by the beauty. It's pretty different from home. Lots more people traveling by foot and bicycle. Countless small shops selling all manner of gifts - jewelry, chopsticks, sweets, food (all kinds), etc. Plus several open air markets tucked in between very tall buildings. We went gift shopping and generally enjoyed walking around town.

I in front of the largest Apple store I've ever seen.
The beautiful gate to a nearby open air market
We ate lunch in there somewhere. The waitstaff got to enjoy the sight of Americans struggling with noodles & chopsticks. We got the hang of it but it took us several minutes. It's good to be able to laugh at ourselves in these moments.

Colonel Sanders is a cross cultural icon

Apparently, so are these guys. If I've got my iconography sorted out, that's a McDonald's ice cream store...with minions, of course.
